The 10 Best Walkable Destinations from Dreamforce

by Michelle McGinnis on Monday, August 22, 2011 in Digital Marketing

With top keynote speakers, sessions across the board in cloud trends, live music and more swag handed out than anyplace at the Oscars, Dreamforce can be an all encompassing experience. People have been known to spend the whole event without seeing the sun.

Most of us will want to break free from the Moscone Center, even for just an hour during a break, and see some nearby spots.  To make the most of these adventures, we decided to offer a list of top 10 destinations just a short walk from Dreamforce. But, hey, we like to keep things interactive. So suggest your favorite Dreamforce locales in the comments below.

1. Where to Get Bomb Burritos
If you need quick, delicious Mexican food, stop by Caramba on 78 2nd Street. Open early and closed by 4pm, Caramba is a local favorite for burritos, tacos and tostadas.

2. Brewin’ Good Times
If you’re anything like me, nothing quenches your thirst like a good, local beer. If all the talk about clouds puts you in the mood for microbrew, head over to ThirstyBear Brewing Co. on 661 Howard Street. They have great pints, a casual atmosphere and phenomenal tapas

3. Get a Toon Up
Need to decompress and have a little lighthearted fun? Stop in at the Cartoon Art Museum on 655 Mission Street. The museum boasts 6,000 pieces of editorial, anime, comic book and strip cartoons in its collection.

4. Breakfast for About $7
Want a bite for breakfast on the cheap? Check out Café Mo’z on 36 5th Street. You can pick up waffles, stacked egg sandwiches, French toast and pancakes – all for around $7.

5. Fine Dining
By dinner you may be ready to drop a little more cash. If fancy is your fancy, be sure to give Boulevard on 1 Mission Street a whirl. They feature an impressive wine list, a renowned chef and a historic building. We recommend you make a reservation.

6. Caffeine Fix
Your main destination for free, fresh-brewed coffee should be the Eloqua booth #717 within the Moscone Center. But, eventually, you may want to venture out. In that case, visit Coffee Choice on 300 3rd Street. Frequently called the best coffee in the city, their java will wake you up.

7. Band Camp
Metallica and leave you craving more live music with your Dreamforce? 50 Mason Social House on 50 Mason Street is one of the newest additions to the neighborhood and features live, local music every night. It has a well-stocked bar and plenty of charm, so settle in and let the music take you away.

8. Dive Into the Dive
Maybe you’re like me and your taste is little more lo-fi. Well, then head over to Tempest Bar on 431 Natoma Street. This hidden jewel restores meaning to the term “dive bar” and draws a lot of locals.

9. Something Fishy
Oh, I know there are some sushi lovers among you. For you fish fans there’s Ozumo on 161 Steuart Street. Its great atmosphere and an extensive sushi, sashmi and sake menu will make you happy as a clam.

10. Sing Us a Song, You’re the Piano Men
Why settle for one piano player when you can have two? The dueling pianos act at Johnny Foley’s on 243 O’Farrell Street is a crowd favorite. Order a drink and tip your waiters.
